Principles and practice of surface engineering
|All stages of producing advanced coatings starting from preparation of precursors, mechanical activation of powders, synthesis of cathode and anode materials with unique chemical and phase composition, deposition technologies, characterization of the properties will be covered via lectures, demonstrations and master classes. An outlook at the development of the technology in the past and in perspective will be presented.|
Novel nanomechanical characterization of functional surfaces. Techniques and standards
|Contact methods of characterization of thin films and coatings to estimate their mechanical properties, including adhesion and tribological ones will be introduced. Assurance of measurement uniformity and conditions of standard good practice of characterization of functional properties of nanomaterials such as hardness, modulus of elasticity, adhesion strength, friction coefficient, wear rate and roughness are reviewed. It is shown how contact mechanical testing of nanoscale volumes allow to characterize the mechanical properties of solids, including advanced nanomaterials.|
