NUST MISIS and Peking University Sign Memorandum of Cooperation

On November 1st, 2016, NUST MISIS and Peking University, China`s leading university, signed an agreement of cooperation in the fields of science and education. The parties agreed to implement joint breakthrough projects and an exchange of students.

An agreement became a real possibility after Professor Weifang Min, a member of Project and a former President of Peking University, visited NUST MISIS in March of 2016. After getting acquainted with NUST MISIS`s achievements, Professor Min expressed interest in cooperating with NUST MISIS as one of Russia`s leading technological universities.

On November 1st, 2016, Alevtina Chernikova, the Rector of NUST MISIS, met with Professor Lin Jianhua, the sitting President of Peking University, and Professor Li Yansong, the Vice President of Peking University, and visited the university`s leading scientific and educational centers. As noted by Professor Lin Jianhua, Peking University is already in strong collaboration with Lomonosov Moscow State University and Saint Petersburg State University, and is hoping to establish the same level of collaboration with NUST MISIS.

“NUST MISIS considers Peking University as one of its important strategic partners and is interested in our extensive cooperation in the fields of science, research, and education. The Chinese Language Center, founded alongside the Institute for Asian and African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, operates at our university. Accordingly, NUST MISIS students have the opportunity to study in universities in China. And in fact, through the joint educational programs with Harbin Institute of Technology around 60 students from China already study at NUST MISIS”, said Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.

During her visit to China Alevtina Chernikova delivered a speech at the Stanford Center at Peking University, where on November 4th & 5th the interuniversity forum on “Building World Class Universities: An Institutional Perspective” was held.

NUST MISIS has already signed cooperation agreements with 15 universities in China. The large-scale project “It`s time to study in Russia!” has been implemented since 2012. The project not only attracts future students from China, but also implements informational events for universities that are interested in cooperation with NUST MISIS. Among them are Tsinghua University and the Beijing Institute of Technology.

NUST MISIS has long-standing collaborations with China. To some extent NUST MISIS even stands at the beginning of modern higher education’s formation in China. The University of Science and Technology Beijing was founded in 1952 through the direct involvement of employees from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys. That university carried the name “Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology”.
