NUST MISIS in TOP-20 of ‘The Three Missions of Universities’ Ranking

The results of Russia`s first national ranking “The Three Missions of Universities” were announced this Tuesday. This summer, the first 20 universities were presented without specific positions.

Several Moscow universities were included in the list of best universities: NUST MISIS, MGIMO University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, MIPT, MEPhI National Research Nuclear University, Sechenov University, Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, RANEPA, Gubkin University, Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, and RUDN University.

Only three universities in Saint Petersburg were included in the TOP-20: Saint Petersburg University, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, andITMO University.

Kazan Federal University, Novosibirsk State University, National Research Tomsk State University, Tomsk Polytechnic University, and Ural Federal University represented regional educational institutions in the top-20.

The ranking`s international version with exact positions, composed with the help of 30 international experts, will be available in October.

Education institutions in the ranking are evaluated by 35 indicators, reflecting universities` three main missions in the modern world: “education”, “science”, and “university & society”. In contrast to today`s three prestigious academic rankings (THE, QS, ARWU), the highest weight (about 40%) in this new international academic ranking was given to the evaluation of a higher education institution’s educational mission.

The 35 indicators are combined into five groups, each of which has a certain weight in the final evaluation: “education” (40%), “science” (30%), “internationalization” (10%), “sustainability and development potential” (10%), and “online education” (10%).

The ranking results will be considered when assessing universities` activities for Project 5-100, TASS reported.
