NUST MISIS and MGIMO Start Training Miners-Internationals

On July 29th, 2018, the first group of students was accepted into the unique Master`s degree program “Strategic Management of International Companies in the Field of Mineral Resources”. The program, developed and implemented by NUST MISIS and MGIMO, is a part of the Interuniversity Educational Center’s project Training Managers for the Russian Mining Industry. The Center was created in 2016 through the NUST MISIS College of Mining, and is overseen by Professor Georgy L. Krasnyansky, the Chairman of the Board of Directors at “Karakan-Invest” and a member of the NUST MISIS Mining Advisory Council.

Graduates of NUST MISIS, MGIMO, Lomonosov Moscow State University, St Petersburg University, The Maurice Thorez Institute of Foreign Languages, and Ural Federal University are among the program’s first batch of students. Five students, including two NUST MISIS postgraduates who successfully completed the entrance exam, have received personal grants from Professor Krasnyansky that fully cover the cost of tuition. Better yet, Professor Krasnyansky has invited them to work in Karakan-Invest`s Analytical Center for the duration of their Master`s degree studies.

The program is primarily practice-oriented. Evening classes will give students the opportunity to combine studying with practical experience through internships in leading mining-mineral companies. The program’s graduates will obtain knowledge in the technologies and economics of mining enterprises, as well as skills in the analysis of international markets, geopolitics, geo-economics and commodity trading. All of this will give graduates the best advantage possible in the labor market.

“The program`s main goal is to train miners specializing in the international field ... competent sought-after professionals and future managers for management [centers] of mineral companies, international traders, and analytics companies. Today, in the context of strengthening control of markets and spheres of influence and the high dynamics of change in commodity markets, the need for specialists is coming into prominence. We are all happy that the program has aroused great interest among students”, — said Professor Krasnyansky.

Due to increased interest in the program, the question of whether to increase the number of places for the first set of students to 16 is being considered. If enrollment is expanded, the additional admissions will be held in August 2018. The admission information will be published on both NUST MISIS and MGIMO’s websites.

The “Strategic Management of International Companies in the Field of Mineral Resources” program is a part of the NUST MISIS project “Master`s Degree with Partners”. In addition to MGIMO, the University implements joint programs with the Financial University Under the Government of the Russian Federation and RUSNANO.
