Maker Faire Moscow, the Third Festival of Digital Art and Creativity

September 8th and 9th, 2018

Gorky Park

Free entrance

The largest Russian festival where the latest technologies and traditional crafts meet was first organized by the NUST MISIS Laboratory of Digital FabLab three years ago. This year, the 3 iteration of the festival is supported by the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art and Gorky Park.

This year it will be possible to celebrate the birthday of Moscow together with technological art enthusiasts, or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, invent something and participate in Maker Faire Moscow. The history of the Maker Faire started in 2006 in California, and since then it has spread around the world. Today, it is the world`s most famous festival of technology and pop science, with the mission to draw attention to the endless possibilities of self-realization and technical creativity.

The Garage Museum and Gorky Park, the festival partners, aim to support various initiatives and experiments, as well as the creation of self-realized infrastructure and comfortable environments.

2018 is the 10th Anniversary of the Garage Museum and the 90th Anniversary of Gorky Park, and to celebrate accordingly, the historic entrance to Gorky park from Leninsky Prospect will be opened. This will bring the partners together with NUST MISIS, the birthplace of Maker Faire Moscow.

The festival program is designed for visitors of all ages and doesn’t require any training — everyone will be able to find something of interest, from listening to Russian and international lecturers or seeing (or giving!) presentations for new products. Over 200 participants or “makers” will be demonstrating their achievements and revealing the tricks of their trade.

The festival program also includes demonstrations of large 3D printers and mechatronic dinosaurs, traditional craft exhibits from blacksmiths and jewelers, sessions with media artists and displays of digital art, and experiments with smart light.

Admission is free upon registration: https://moscow.makerfaire.com

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art is a place for people, art and ideas to create history. Founded in 2008 by Dasha Zhukova and Roman Abramovich, Garage is the first philanthropic institution in Russia to create a comprehensive public mandate for contemporary art. Providing opportunities for dialogue, as well as the production of new work and ideas, the Museum’s extensive program of exhibitions, events, education, research, and publishing reflects current developments in Russian and international culture. Central to these activities is the Museum’s collection, which is the only public archive in the country related to the development of Russian contemporary art from the 1950s through to the present.

On June 12, 2015, Garage welcomed visitors to its first permanent home designed by OMA, this is a groundbreaking preservation project that has transformed the famous Vremena Goda (Seasons of the Year) Soviet Modernist restaurant built in 1968 in Gorky Park into a contemporary museum.

Gorky Park

Created in 1928 and approaching its 100th birthday, Gorky Park remains a platform for the implementation of bold new ideas, tendencies, and projects.

Sports parades, concerts on the water, and unique architectural objects have been held in the park since its first days. All these activities have given rise to the history of “The Factory of Happy People”. Today, Gorky Park attracts purposeful, unique people who help change the city`s appearance, habits, and even its way of life.

Gorky Park is expanding — Muzeon, Vorobyovy Gory, and Neskuchny Garden have all become a part of the Park over time. Cultural and event programs are becoming more extensive and diversified, expanding further this fall when the Park will host the Maker Faire Festival.
