NUST MISIS Branch in Tajikistan to Train Mining Engineers

On February 27th, 2017, at a meeting between Alevtina Chernikova, the Rector of NUST MISIS, and Nuriddin Said, the Republic of Tajikistan`s Minister of Education & Science, an agreement was reached to establish a new department to train mining engineers at the NUST MISIS branch in Dushanbe.

The NUST MISIS branch in Dushanbe was established in 2011 through an intergovernmental agreement to establish branches of Russian higher education institutions in the Republic of Tajikistan. NUST MISIS became the second university after Lomonosov Moscow State University to open its branch in Tajikistan.

NUST MISIS trains specialists for the metallurgical industry, which is one of the most important industries in Tajikistan. NUST MISIS cooperates with all the largest metallurgical enterprises in Tajikistan: Tajik Aluminium Company, Adrasmon Lead-Zinc Industrial Plant, Rare Metals Plant, etc. Students in the Dushanbe NUST MISIS branch not only take internships and do practical work at the largest industrial enterprises, but all the graduates also get jobs in the industry after their graduation.

There is a high demand for mining engineers from the Republic’s industrial enterprises. To account for the demand, Alevtina Chernikova and Nuriddin Said decided during their meeting this week to establish a Department which will exclusively train mining engineers.

During her visit to Tajikistan, Alevtina Chernikova also met with Shavkat Bobozoda, the Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Industry & New Technologies.

In 2015, NUST MISIS and the Republic of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Industry & New Technologies signed a cooperation agreement in the fields of educational and scientific-technical activities, particularly for the practical training of NUST MISIS students on the basis of the ministry’s departmental enterprises.

The parties agreed on the development of the Department of Metallurgy in the Dushanbe NUST MISIS branch and also on strengthening ties with the business community in Kazakhstan. Now, from the beginning of the 2nd year of studies every student will be trained under an individual program with the support of representatives from industry enterprises.

The Ministry of Industry & New Technologies of the Republic of Tajikistan will also provide a building for a residence hall complex in Dushanbe to house NUST MISIS students.
