NUST MISIS Processes Documents 5 Times Faster with ABBYY FlexiCapture

NUST MISIS became the first university to fully automate work with students` academic records through ABBYY technology. This allowed the university to process more than 10,000 academic records during winter exams. ABBYY technology was also widely used by NUST MISIS during the 2016 admission campaign.

The collection and processing of applicants` personal data — passports and applications — are the most time-consuming phase during document submission. Every year, school graduates bring more than 6,000 batches of documents for admission, which must be processed on the same day.

During the 2016 admission campaign, NUST MISIS used ABBYY FlexiCapture technology. This process of document submission is organized in the following way: passports and applications are received at one of 16 scan stations, and the data is automatically recognized and entered into the database „1С: University”. As a result, the processing of each batch of documents takes no more than 1 minute. A personal electronic account is created for each applicant to monitor the situation through competitive scores.

„Admission to university is a very important and responsible stage both for applicants and their parents. At NUST MISIS we do our best to make this process as comfortable and transparent as possible. To speed up document submission, last year we decided to [simplify and] computerize the mechanism of any document’s submission. It allowed us to avoid lines at the admissions office despite the increased flow of applicants, as well as to update applicants` data on the university`s website in real time”, — said Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.

The successful cooperation with ABBYY continued during the 2017 winter exams — ABBYY FlexiCapture was used to process more than 10,000 academic records. The program recognizes every grade and automatically loads data into „1С: University”. Even more impressively, the recognition accuracy is 95%. During the simultaneous processing of 30 records, the data-entering process takes less than 5 minutes.

The system of „one window” operates at NUST MISIS. All the information regarding the educational process, including students` academic progress data, is available to students on the university`s website. Thanks to the quick recognition of academic records, all grades appear on a student’s personal account on the day of an exam.

Today, ABBYY technology operates in all 9 of NUST MISIS’s Colleges. The technology will also be implemented into the university`s 4 branches in the near future.
