NUST MISIS recently celebrated New Year the Persian way. On the day of the Spring Equinox, students from 69 countries celebrated the International Holiday, Nowruz.
Vyacheslav Khvan, the NUST MISIS Vice-Rector of Student Residence Hall Complexes and Relations with CIS Countries, spoke about the features of this cheerful ancient holiday: “Nowruz has historically been associated with the people`s hope for the harvest and a happy life. This is the spring break-up time, also a time to forgive all offences and pay off all one’s debts”.
Nowruz is such a distinctive holiday that it is included on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Students put on a great show in the Commune House Student Residence Hall Complex and familiarized themselves with the culture of countries where Nowruz is celebrated. Traditionally, it is considered to be the New Year for Iranians and Turks, and it is also celebrated as a national holiday in several other countries. Originally, the holiday was observed in Iran, UAE, Turkey, India, and the Caucasus region. However, Nowruz has spread to other Russian regions, as well as to Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Belarus, and Namibia. That is why, in just 2 and a half hours, 250 guests made a great journey across the world with the help of students and campus staff.
“NUST MISIS is a very large and multinational family — students from 69 countries of the world study here. I hope NUST MISIS will always act as a second home for students”, Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS, said as she thanked all the speakers for their vivid impressions and the evening`s emotional atmosphere.
