The NUST MISIS Tradition to Get Students Acquainted with Traditions of Different Countries

On April 19th, 2018, NUST MISIS hosted the Day of Nationalities for the 5th time. 2000 guests presented their creative acts and national cuisine. Students — representatives of 22 nationalities from 18 Moscow universities, as well as representatives of embassies and official missions from ten countries, took part in the festival.

Vadim Petrov, NUST MISIS Vice-Rector of Educational Affairs, noted the importance of this event: “NUST MISIS is a universe of science and knowledge, but at the same time we don’t forget that our students carry a piece of their homeland in their hearts. It is very important that the University hosts an event where students from all over the world introduce us to their culture”.

The Day of Nationalities is an opportunity to feel unity with representatives of different nations and to mentally visit their countries. Following tradition, the celebration begins with a flash mob on the University square, during which representatives of each country present their nation’s traditional dances. A vivid concert was held after, serving national dishes.

This year, the NUST MISIS International Friendship Club (the event’s organizer) held the quiz, “Countries, peoples, and nationalities of the world” on the VK social media platform. Laura Zhaksylykova, from Kazakhstan, won the contest.

More than 17,000 students study at NUST MISIS, including 3300 students from 69 countries around the globe. NUST MISIS is one of the leaders in internationalization among the university-participants of Project 5-100.

In Fall 2018, the 2nd International Congress of Student Associations will be held at NUST MISIS. The Congress is organized jointly with the All-Russian International Youth Union and supported by both the Russian Ministry of Education & Science and Rosmolodezh. It is aimed at developing the network between student associations and consolidating the experience of various universities in Russia and abroad.
