On May 17th, 2018, NUST MISIS hosted African Student Union Day. Traditionally, the program consisted of artifact viewing, a concert, and a display of national cuisines. This year’s ceremony was the first with Daniel Bonner Mbil as the Chairman of the Union, and that played an important role during the proceedings.
Students from African countries studying at NUST MISIS and other Moscow universities took part in the event. They were happy to show what their countries are known for — whether it’s malachite jewelry from the Congo or a popular Kuduro dance from Angola. During the runway walk, the participants introduced the audience to colorful national outfits. In addition to the students, representatives of several African embassies also visited the ceremony.
“I believe that getting a technical education at NUST MISIS is a great opportunity for African students. These specialties are in great demand in our countries and graduates can successfully apply their knowledge upon their return home. We value our cooperation and would like to have more students studying in your University”, said Mr. Salim M. Salim, Charge D`Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Moscow.
Masamba Kah, head of the NUST MISIS International Master`s Degree Program “Science and Materials of Solar Energy” welcomed all the participants and guests in his video address. For this event, the NUST MISIS Office of International Affairs prepared small gifts for the most active members of the union: a memorable t-shirt with the University`s logo.
“NUST MISIS has become a ‘Moscow home’ for students from 24 African countries. They study in all colleges and at all levels of education — from Bachelor`s degrees to PhD programs, as well as in the preparatory department. On behalf of NUST MISIS management I would like to thank all the members of the African Union for their contribution to the intercultural dialogue”, — said Alyona Ponomarenko, head of the NUST MISIS Office of International Academic Mobility.
African Student Union Day was held through the support of the NUST MISIS International Friendship Club and the Office of International Academic Mobility for the 3rd straight year.
