Making Cities Smart: NUST MISIS Hosts the “UrbanTech” Forum

On November 8th and 9th, 2018, NUST MISIS together with the Center for Competences on Urban Environment Issues, a part of the Russian Ministry of Construction, held the all-Russian “UrbanTech” forum. The event was held as part of the Intersec Forum Russia — an event dedicated to the development of the “Smart City” concept — building automatization and safety control in residential and office premises.

The event`s grand opening ceremony was held in a plenary session format at the Expocenter. Andrei Chibis, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Construction, Housing & Utilities of the Russian Federation, Igor Isaev, the NUST MISIS First Vice Executive Rector, and Oleg Zorya, Director of the Center for Competences on Urban Environment Issues of the Russian Ministry of Construction, were among the speakers.

The experts discussed youth involvement in the “Smart City” project, the experience of its services in the urban environment, and ways for educational organizations to itnroduce “smart technologies” into the educational process.

The forum continued at NUST MISIS with the motivational session “Smart City 2024” and the “UrbanTech Laboratory” workshop, which attracted winning teams from the regional workshops of the lab.

Over the two days, participants developed “Smart City” systems in the fields of safety, transportation, energy, utilities and urban services.

Igor Veselov, head of special projects at the Center for Competences on Urban Environment Issues, noted that all the participants demonstrated a good level of training, and many of the projects presented could immediately be recommended for implementation in Russian cities.
