The new research & education lab “Perspective Precision Materials”, equipped with METKON equipment for sample processing and the research of precision materials, was recently opened at NUST MISIS. Vasily Bautin, Ph.D. and leading researcher at the NUST MISIS Department of Steel Metallurgy, New Production Technologies, & Metal Protection, has been appointed the lab’s head.
On September 13th, 2017, VisionHack, the first international hackathon on artificial intelligence and computer vision, concluded. This momentous event was organized by NUST MISIS and Cognitive Technologies under the support of State Corporation “Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs (Vnesheconombank)” and the Skolkovo Foundation. The top three winners included two teams from Lomonosov Moscow State University, while the third hailed from MIPT. Two teams from NUST MISIS, one team from Skoltech, one from Kazan Federal University, and one from Innopolis were included in the competition’s top 10. The final slot in the top 10 went to the team from UPC (Spain).
A group of NUST MISIS scientists jointly with their colleagues from the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (Kolkata, India) have managed to synthesize stable gold nanoparticles in the shape of a star to fight against cancer. These inexpensive and non-toxic nanoparticles will allow to effectively diagnose cancer in its early stages and to emphatically destroy compromised cells. The study’s results have been published in the Journal of the Chemical Society.
A group of scientists led by Pyotr Lagov, Candidate of Technical Sciences and Associate Professor at the NUST MISIS Semiconductor Electronics and Semiconductor Physics Department, has developed a new type of power diode with an optimized silicon structure.
