Fundamental Engineering of Functional and Structural Materials

The program is devoted to innovative areas of modern materials science related to examination of processes for producing new high-temperature and superhard materials, their properties and the possibility of usage in various fields of industries. Students work on creating materials that are used to create gas turbine engines, hypersonic flying objects, cutting and drilling tools, and various protective coatings, and they also study the processes of synthesizing artificial diamonds, including for the jewelry industry.

Nowadays and for the long term, steels and alloys remain the main materials supporting all sectors of the economy and industry. The Master’s program in Applied Analytics in Metal Science combines state-of-the-art knowledge from materials science, digital technologies and big data as the foundations of technological breakthroughs, and meets international standards and requirements of Industry 4.0. Students learn the best practices and the latest advances in materials science, metallurgy and strength physics. They learn to design new materials, independently conduct complex research using world-class equipment, acquire Python programming skills to process large amounts of information, and solve specific fundamental and innovative problems of modern industry.

We train multidisciplinary professionals for scientific and industrial work in the fields of analytical methods of research, development and production of various materials, including biocompatible materials (semiconductors, dielectrics, metals) used in micro- and nanoelectronics, optoelectronics, solar energy, power electronics and information display devices, in medicine.

The Master’s program is delivered in a multitrack format and includes two tracks:

• “Materials science of nanoelectronics functional materials”,
• “Laser technology: materials and devices”.

The Master’s program in Physics, Research Methods, and Technologies of Functional Materials is aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the field of studying the structure and properties of inorganic materials (including nanostructured and nanoscale ones) for various applications, including functional materials with record magnetic properties (soft magnetic and hard magnetic), as well as materials for biomedical applications. From the first year of their Master’s degree, students are involved in the processes of developing, researching and obtaining new materials using unique equipment of the latest generation. Graduates of the program work in leading scientific organizations and companies with high-tech industries.

Advanced materials science paves the way for the creation of future technologies: from quantum devices to aerospace alloys. The English-language, multi-track Master’s program “Advanced Materials” trains research engineers specializing in various areas of materials science, from metals and alloys to semiconductors and dielectrics. The program combines a strong foundation in physics and chemistry with applied engineering tasks, including computer-aided design (CAD/CAM), the synthesis and study of new advanced materials, and perovskite photonics. Graduates are sought after by R&D centers, large corporations, aerospace companies, and the renewable energy sector, which require experts who can develop materials with specific properties and incorporate them into high-tech manufacturing.
