Elsevier Showcase: increased recognition, more funding & higher ranks — case studies for a balanced and data-driven research management

The local and global research ‘ecosystems’ are getting increasingly competitive, since politics and funders try to create better results by pushing institutions into a rivalry for funding and recognition. In order to prevail, research institutions all around the world — if they like it or not — have to more pro-actively manage and improve the quality, relevance and impact of their research on the hunt for increased recognition, more funding and higher ranking positions.
Management concepts leveraged vary, depending on an institution’s culture, and there is no jack-of-all-trades; but experience shows, that what seems to work fine is a data-driven, well-balanced and research-field-sensitive Research Quality Management, that aligns the researcher’s work with the institution’s strategic goals, but at the same time does not ‘choke’ their creativity by continuous laborious assessments and micro management.
The talk introduces case studies of institutions that have successfully increased recognition, attracted more funding and risen in rankings working with ‘balanced’ concepts, and gives insights into the strategies and approaches leveraged. Location: TBC
