Abstract
Gd3(AlхGa(1-х))5O12:Ce3+ mixed crystals (GAGG:Ce) are perspective scintillators for application in medicine and high-energy physics. While demonstrating the highest light yield among oxygen based scintillators, these crystals are also characterized by the presence of slow decay components that limit its application. Bandgap engineering method implies gradual change of crystal’s composition aimed at the control of the processes of energy transfer to emission centers. The influence of partial substitution of Al and Ga cations by Sc on the structure, energy bands and luminescence properties of GAGG:Ce crystals is considered in the lecture.
