Moscow State Symphony Orchestra Concert

We invite our students and staff to a concert by the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra.

On October 14, a special evening of music will take place as part of AdLibitum, a long-term project established by the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with MISIS University. The project has become an integral part of the ArsLonga International Music Festival.

The concert promises to be a treat for lovers of unconventional classical music. Through AdLibitum, students and faculty have the opportunity to be among the first to experience the festival’s concert programs.

Over the years, the university’s Concert Hall has hosted performances of symphonies by Beethoven, Brahms and Rachmaninoff. This time, audiences will encounter the music of Dmitri Shostakovich.

The evening’s program features Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10, one of the composer’s most personal works. The symphony was written after an eight-year hiatus. In 1948, a Communist Party decree condemned Shostakovich’s music as “formalist and harmful”. He was dismissed from his conservatory position and spent several years composing mainly film scores and politically acceptable oratorios.

His Tenth Symphony marked his return to the grand symphonic form — a deeply personal expression by a man who had endured war, persecution and political pressure without surrendering. The work premiered on December 17, 1953, in Leningrad, conducted by the renowned Yevgeny Mravinsky.
