Dr. Martin Hinoul — Business Development Manager of KU Leuven R&D.
The Region Leuven (Belgium) with only 100.000 inhabitants and 40.000 students is blessed with one of the most innovative universities in the world (Reuters Index), with a state of the art Micro and Nano electronic center (Imec), a state of the art Academic Hospital and the presence of the Flemish Institute for biotechnology (VIB).
This Leuven region has 7000 researchers with a budget of one billion Euro in R&D per year.
This Leuven region has 150 spin offs from KU Leuven and Imec and attracted 300 technology companies from all over the word which made from this region one of the top technology driven economy regions in Europe.
The scaling of this region with Eindhoven in the Netherlands and Aachen in Germany will make it the number one region in Europe (The ELAt knowledge region).
Also the alliance with Heidelberg in Germany and Cambridge in the United Kingdom with the formation of the Health Axis Europe will put Leuven on the worldmap in the field of Life Sciences.
In my presentation I will describe this Leuven phenomenon in depth.
