Digitalization for Mining and Metallurgical Complex

The business game CUP MISIS CASE was recently held at NUST MISIS.

On May 30, 2018, the technological game CUP MISIS CASE was held at NUST MISIS. More than 130 participants tried their hand at solving tasks on the digitalization of fields and metallurgical plants. At the end of the event, the participants presented their ideas to experts from collaborating industrial companies.

The competition was held in three sections: for schoolchildren, for engineering students, and for IT students. The participants had the task to define how technologies and digitalization change Mining & Metallurgy and to propose a plan on how to implement new technologies into the field’s production, social, and administrative processes.

Previous winners of the case-championship and NUST MISIS experts advised the participants. Representatives from Chelpipe, Mosmetrostroy, RusKorma, General Electric, and the Industrial Development Fund served as judges.

Winners:

NeoMine, a team from the NUST MISIS engineering class of school № 1518, won the schoolchildren section with “The Metallurgist of the future”;

Aliance, a joint team of NUST MISIS and Bauman Moscow State Technical University, won for the engineering section with: “Modern technologies in metallurgy”;

Erzatz, a joint team of the Graduate School of Management (St. Petersburg University), the Higher School of Economics, and the Russian Foreign Trade Academy Ministry of Economic Development won for the IT section with: “The digital twin of production”.

The main prize is a trip to NUST MISIS`s educational campus on the Black sea in summer 2018.

The event’s format is a simplified version of the bigger CUP MISIS CASE championship, which traditionally occurs in autumn. The whole competition lasted one day, and the tasks were adapted for the limited amount of time. Such a business game gives students the opportunity to try their hand at applying to participate in the all-Russian championship.

The NUST MISIS Career Center, the organizer of the event, will hold online course to prepare students for participation in the CUP MISIS CASE championship being held in September 2018.
