NUST MISIS First Year Student Wins International PUSHKA Design Competition

Daniil Efimov, a 1st year Bachelor`s degree student at NUST MISIS, took 2nd place in the PUSHKA International Competition of Industrial design. Daniil was one of the youngest participants in the entire event and the only finalist in the “non-core” specialty.

PUSHKA is an annual forum dedicated to industrial design and has been in existence since 2016. It traditionally hosts the eponymous contest to find the best projects from University students.

This year, students from 10 universities from Finland, Turkey, Russia and other CIS countries, including 5 NUST MISIS students — members of the University`s Student Design Club — presented their work at the competition.

Daniil Efimov, one of the event’s youngest participants and a 1st year student at the NUST MISIS College of IT & Automated Control Systems studying applied mathematics, won a silver medalist in the “Temple of Food” category. He presented his design for a minimalistic and functional kitchen, where space is saved (for example, drawers are pulled out vertically), and individual elements are multi-functional (for example, counter tops that can easily transform into a dining table). The project was developed in CAD “Compass-3D”. Working with “Compass-3D” is one of Daniil`s main hobbies.

“The NUST MISIS Student Design Club offered us freshmen student [the chance] to participate in this competition to develop our 3D-modelling skills. I immediately had the kitchen project concept in my head as [something] interesting to implement. Participation in this kind of competition seemed interesting to me since I had to master the rendering technology of 3D-models. The project’s preparation took about 3 weeks. It seems to me that I was the only participant who studies a ‘non-core’ specialty — applied mathematics [in my case]. The other finalists were students of various design faculties”,
