Japan Announces Plans to Develop Cooperation with NUST MISIS in Science and Technology

NUST MISIS hosted the meeting of Yuko Tsuda, representative of Center for Research and Development Strategy (CRDS) of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), with the university`s administration to discuss the university’s success and valuable experience in the development of science and technology.

On 26 May, 2016 Yuko Tsuda, a representative of Center for Research and Development Strategy (CRDS) of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), met with the NUST MISIS administration. The meeting was dedicated to the NUST MISIS progressive experience in the development of science and technology.

The Japanese party got interested in NUST MISIS’s successful transformation into the world-class university since the latter is a participant of Project 5-100. The aim of the project is to increase the competitive position of Russian universities in the global research and education market. In 2015 NUST MISIS was recognized as the leader among other universities that participate in the project, as it produced the biggest share of the publications in the top scientific journals.

“Japanese scientists are keen partners of the scientists from all around the world, including those from the Russian Federation (with which they have personal contacts). Nevertheless, the Japanese officials don’t have a precise understanding of the exact ways in which Japan and Russia should develop their scientific and technological partnership. The Japanese government is highly interested in such cooperation. However, it lacks the sufficient information for the understanding of its development. I hope that today’s meeting will become the first step to the solution of this problem”, said Yuko Tsuda.

Mrs. Tsuda plans to release this year an analytical report on the development of Russian Federation’s science and technology, to be reviewed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) in Japan. Yuko Tsuda was advised to review Russian scientific and technological achievement on the example of NUST MISIS by Masato Nakamura, Vice-President of Panasonic Russia.

“Panasonic is particularly interested in the developed of prototyping. NUST MISIS has finished construction of its unique engineering prototyping center named ‘Center for Industrial Prototyping of High Complexity’. When the center will be ready to work to its fullest, it will attract the whole association of Japanese business, which includes 190 large companies. I think many Japanese companies would be highly interested in working with this center. It can be the beginning of new dialogue in partnership of Russia and the Japanese business community,” said Masato Nakamura.

“A number of scientists from leading Japanese universities work at our university and head its foremost laboratories, with being among them Professor Akihisa Inoue, Head of Advanced Green Materials Laboratory, and Professor Dmitri Golberg, Head of Laboratory of Inorganic Nanomaterials. NUST MISIS also cooperates with The Japan Atomic Energy Agency, Rigaku and other leading Japanese corporations”, said Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.
