Strategic initiatives

1. Implementing mechanisms both to ensure the concentration of resources on breakthrough areas and to disengage from less effective areas.

This initiative is intended to determine key areas of educational activities and implement breakthrough R&D projects including those based on the interdisciplinary platform development. This initiative targets the implementation of Marketing Research Strategy target model element.

2. Establishing governance system in the university to meet target model indicators and characteristics.

This initiative is intended to transform the university operations upon the best world practices, to increase the resource use efficiency, and to raise the service and administration operational standards. This initiative targets the implementation of Management System and Service Oriented Model target model element.

3. Developing an organizational change management model.

This initiative is intended to set up management control over changes within the Global Competitiveness Improvement Program. This initiative targets the implementation of University Human Resources Capacity, Management of Change target model element.

The integrated plan envisaging management of change and put in place in 2014 is implemented as a part of this initiative. Its crucial component is setting up an efficient project-based management of the Global Competitiveness Improvement Program.

4. Attracting and developing key university staff, improving the quality of research and academic teaching staff.

This initiative is intended to attract R&D, faculty, administrative and management personnel featuring international experience; further develop the university human resources capacity through support of young researchers and faculty and programs of academic mobility. This initiative targets the implementation of University Human Resources Capacity, Management of Change target model element. Apart from that, the initiative serves as foundation for the implementation of Marketing Research Strategy target model element.

This initiative envisages personnel attraction and consolidation, administrative environment improvement and further personnel productivity development.

5. Attracting talented students and postgraduates.

This initiative is intended to increase Master’s degree and postgraduate student ratio in the total number of students by attracting talented students and postgraduates. This initiative targets the implementation of Admissions Marketing Strategy and Employer Marketing Strategy target model elements.

This initiative envisages a number of measures to attract students from Russia and abroad. Besides, it will help NUST MISIS students, faculty and researchers continue learning English as part of the Cambridge University Press joint project. Upon their learning results students, faculty and researchers will pass IELTS certification.

6. Establishing a portfolio of the university’s programs and intellectual products, ensuring international competitiveness.

This initiative is intended to enhance the university competitiveness by means of new learning programs and research projects attracting third-party researchers. This initiative targets the implementation of Admissions Marketing Strategy and Marketing Research Strategy target model elements.

This initiative envisages development and implementation of new popular learning programs targeting preparation of human resources in demand by national economy (medicine and natural sciences, power sector, transport, information and communication technologies, etc.) and high-tech industry including those in cooperation with leading international and Russian universities and taught in foreign languages. Student academic mobility will be further promoted; new learning technologies and MOOCs will be implemented. This initiative also provides for the implementation of R&D projects attracting leading international scientists and the promotion of the university publication activity.

7. Promoting the role of NUST MISIS as a leader in innovation.

This initiative is intended to develop the university-based innovation ecosystem and to raise the R&D project financial payback level. The initiative targets the implementation of Innovation Ecosystem target model element.

8. Developing a university infrastructure to meet present-day requirements.

This initiative is intended to develop the university infrastructure based on the existing facilities and IT infrastructure, and building a new campus. This initiative targets the implementation of Facilities and Information Infrastructure target model elements.

9. Ensuring stable financing of university operations, including diversification of funding sources.

This initiative is intended to provide diversification of funding sources by enhancing cooperation with business and know-how financial payback, as well as Endowment Fund development. The initiative targets the implementation of Economic and Financial Model target model element.

10. Enhancing the university’s profile and reputation in the international academic community and information sphere.

This initiative is intended to promote NUST MISIS as a leading technical university at global level. This initiative targets the implementation of University Reputation Improvement Strategy target model element.
