NUST MISIS’s Young Scientists Receive the Moscow Government Award

Two groups of NUST MISIS’s young scientists have won Moscow Government Awards for 2017.

PhD Alexander Bykov, an employee at the NUST MISIS Laboratory for Functional Low-Dimensional Structures, and Ksenia Kuzmina, a PhD student at the NUST MISIS Department for Semiconductor Electronics and Physics, have received awards for the “Energy efficiency and energy saving” nomination for their work on “The development and research of radiation-stimulating elements with increased service life”. They explained that they created a high-efficiency converter to ionize radiation into electricity that makes it possible to improve output parameters by 10-20% depending on technological performance, and with a service life of more than 20 years.

Their electric power generator prototype can operate in a temperature range of —100 to +150°С for over 20 years while maintaining an electrode voltage of 10V and an electronic current frequency of 50 Hz. A successful prototype modeling these feats has already been created.

Darya Sidorenko and Pavel Loginov, both PhD students and research assistants at the Research and Educational Center for Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis MISIS-ISMAN, have received an award in the “Advanced Industrial Technologies” nomination. They won the award for their work on “The development of a new generation diamond-cutting tool with nanomodified ligaments and hybrid working layers”. As Sidorenko & Loginov explained, they have managed to create an import-substituting technology for obtaining a bond for the diamond-bearing layer. This new technology involves a transition from chemical methods of producing powder mixtures to mechanical methods, allowing the researchers to reduce the cost of binders and to increase the cutting tool’s durability.

Each 2017 award had a one million ruble prize.

The award ceremony was held on February 5th, 2018, in the State Kremlin Palace.
