The seminar of prof. Aikaterini Mandilara “Multipartite Entanglement and the Others”

The seminar of the Superconducting Metamaterials Laboratory „Multipartite Entanglement and the Others” will be held in National University of Science and Technology MISIS (Moscow, Leninskiy prospekt 4), lecture hall Б-607 (6th floor) on 1st of December at 15:00 by prof. Aikaterini Mandilara, Nazarbayev University (Astana, Kazakhstan).

Abstract: The concept of entanglement has attracted a lot of attention the last decades and different methods have been developed for its description. In the multipartite scenario there is no simple answer to the entanglement question since the complexity of the problem becomes too high very fast. In this talk, I am going to overview different techniques that we have developed together with collaborators along the years, mainly underlining the new perspectives and questions that these studies open up in quantum physics. More specifically, I am going to present the nilpotent polynomials technique applicable to pure states, the notion of essentially entangled component for mixed states and a novel representation for symmetric states that facilitates entanglement description.

Aikaterini Mandilara, received her PhD in 2005 at Washington University in St. Louis, under the supervision of Prof J W Clark. During her thesis she proposed novel probabilistic schemes for quantum control using entanglement as a resource. Since then, quantum entanglement has been her main subject of research interest and together with collaborators she has worked on developing methods for its description. After her graduation, she has been working as postdoctoral researcher in different theoretical groups in Europe: Aime Cotton Laboratory in Orsay at France, Center for Quantum Information and Communication (QuIC) at the Free University of Brussels, Laboratory for Quantum Phenomena and Materials at Universite Paris 7, Telecom Paris Tech. Apart from entanglement, Dr Mandilara has worked on extended quantum uncertainty relations, atomic ensembles, quantum optics, quantum control and quantum communications. Since 2014 she holds the position of Assistant Professor in Physics at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan.
