On July 9th & 10th, 2016, for the very first time in Russia, NUST MISIS hosted the Moscow Mini Maker Faire, the world`s most famous festival of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. Moscow Mini Maker Faire — 2016 was organized under the international license of Maker Media, the famous founder of the maker movement.
The Festival gathered more than 5000 visitors and over 80 workshops of technical creativity promoting both Russian and international makers. The organizers presented a wide range of activities and spectacles: a 3D printer that prints from clay; the PLEN robot from Japan, which repeats a person`s movements; the “hat of happiness”; a compact, wheeled robot assistant for domestic needs; a communication device for disabled people; and a robot capable of gathering data on the environmental situations in cities, among other things.
Visitors had the opportunity to print on 3D printers, develop details in a real forge, assemble a robot, car, or orchestra from fruit, take part in one of the Nerdy Derby engineering project`s races and in an open engineering lectorium discussion, and also to construct and launch a space rocket prototype.
On July 9th, the faire held the international forum The Making Future. The forum was dedicated to discussion of the development of the maker`s movement global tendencies. Bart Bakker, Author of the Mini Fab Lab concept (the Netherlands), Mark Bünger, Vice President of Research at Lux Research (the United States), Cecilia Tham, Mastermind of Makers of Barсelona (Spain), Sonya Pryor-Jones, Chief Implementation Officer at the Fab Foundation (the United States) and many others were among the keynote speakers.
International experts spoke on the maker movement and industrial revolution, various Internet trends, the future of digital production, the development of the FabLab format in universities, mobile workshops, software for makers, and the secrets of turning a hobby into a successful business in the makerspace format.
