United Metallurgical Company (OMK) is one of the leading integrated steel producers in Russia, and one of NUST MISIS`s strategic partners. NUST MISIS, together with OMK, has implemented new education and research programs. Developed at the corporation`s request, the MBA program “Management of Industrial Enterprise” is designed for line managers to be able to initiate improvements in organizing and managing production.
On October 24th, 2016, the MBA program “Management of Industrial Enterprise” started with the aim to enhance the professional and managerial skills of OMK`s chief executives. The program is designed for one year, during which line managers, who already have received higher technical education, will be able to become familiarized with the best practices and know-how in the field of production management for their subsequent use in practice.
“The program is really important for both participating with its employees, as well as the company as a whole. The course is designed by NUST MISIS, one of world`s leading technical universities. The program will help to develop leadership and managerial competences which are essential in today`s competitive environment. In turn, the company will become more efficient and sustainable in the long-term perspective”, said Natalya Eremina, Deputy Chairman of the OMK Board.
It’s not the first NUST MSIS and OMK joint program—from 2009 to 2014, at request of Vyksa Steel Works (VSW), NUST MISIS implemented a special project called “OMK Campus”. The program`s aim was to train specialists with high qualifications that fit into positions in high-tech production. That knowledge from other fields has been added to the knowledge from the “metallurgy” field (system-oriented analyses —its development), etc.
“United Metallurgical Company is one of NUST MISIS`s key strategic partners. This isn’t the first time we’ve established joint educational programs combining theoretical knowledge with practice in production. Students taking the ‘Management of Industrial Enterprise’ program will have a unique chance to learn from leading Russian scientists, to work with university labs fitted with modern equipment, and to learn about the latest achievements of Russian scientists in the fields of metallurgy and materials science”, said Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.
The program is designed for 240 hours. The aim of the course is to develop leaders able to initiate improvements in the field of the effective organization of production. The program includes internships at leading Russian enterprises.
