On October 31st, 2018, NUST MISIS hosted an “Open Rectorate” meeting with University management and students. Some of the main topics discussed at the event were the organization of practical trainings and internships, the employment of graduates, scholarship programs, and the integration of scientific and educational activities.
“Open Rectorate” is a format of interaction between NUST MISIS’s students and management, which allows the students to get relevant information about life at NUST MISIS, to ask questions, and to give suggestions on how to improve the University.
On October 31st, 2018, questions related to both the educational process and extracurricular activities were discussed at the meeting: students asked about additional classes in the most difficult subjects for students, the employment of students and graduates, student participation in the scientific life of the University, improving living conditions in the dormitories, and organizing summer vacation, among other things. A lot of questions were devoted to industrial internships — students were interested exactly how the internships are assigned to students.
“Internships are traditionally held at the sites of the University`s partner enterprises and the lists of recommended internships at a particular place are formed in advance. The [lists] can be found by contacting the Department or the Office of the College. NUST MISIS students don`t typically have to look for an internship on their own, but if a student is invited by a particular company it is always possible to issue documents for that internship individually through the Department for Educational and Methodical Management”, said Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.
One of the main questions asked was focused on the possibilities and terms of obtaining more scholarships. As Alevtina Chernikova explained, there are now 50 scholarship programs being implemented at NUST MISIS, including through the University’s partnership with leading Russian companies. Scholarships for students are divided into state academic scholarships, nominal scholarships (for example, the Mayor of Moscow scholarship), specialized ones (for example, BEST MISIS), awards (for example, the award named after V.S. Strizhko), and international ones for students going to study abroad or coming to NUST MISIS from another country. Scholarships can be combined as well.
While addressing the students Chernikova stressed that their initiative is one of the main forces that can improve the University.
Based on student suggestions and announced during the “Open Rectorate”, the University has expanded its WiFi range, opened new self-preparation rooms in dorms, opened a sports complex in the Commune House, and improved the functionality of student`s personal accounts.
“Open Rectorate” is held at NUST MISIS twice a year — in fall and spring.
