For the first time, NUST MISIS has entered the QS World University Rankings by Subject and is now featured in 4 of 46 subjects featured in this year`s edition: Engineering-Mineral & Mining, Materials Science, Physics & Astronomy, and Engineering-Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing. NUST MISIS pays special attention to its strategic areas — mining and materials science. In the new QS World University Rankings by Subject, NUST MISIS entered the top 10% of the world`s best universities specializing in mining, and was ranked 31st with a total score of 62.3.
According to Leonid Vaisberg, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Research and Engineering Corporation “Mekhanobr-Tekhnika”, and a member of the NUST MISIS Expert Mining Council, “In the last few years I have been observing the rebirth of the mining field, which is happening thanks to the active work of NUST MISIS management. Science schools in the fields of petrophysics, the enrichment and processing of rocks, the physical chemistry of coal, and others are being developed. World-class laboratories, offering breakthrough research for the mining industry, are being established. I see the increased interest of young people in mining specialties — very strong and well-prepared applicants are showing up to university. I know that the leading enterprises of the industry — ‘Karakan-Invest’, SUEK, ALROSA, and other companies connected with the mining field — have a very high opinion about the level of training students receive at the NUST MISIS College of Mining”.
The highest rating NUST MISIS received was for the “Reputation among employers” indicator — with 92.8 points. The demand for a university`s graduates during employment is the key factor for the QS World University Rankings by Subject when evaluating international universities.
According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject results for materials science, NUST MISIS entered the top 30% of the world`s best universities specializing in the field of materials science. NUST MISIS fell within the 251-300 group for the “Academic reputation” indicator, clocking in with 67.3 points.

According to the 2016 results, among the university-participants of Project 5-100, NUST MISIS is first in the number of publications in the engineering & materials science field in journals in the first quartile of the SNIP.
According to results of the rankings for Engineering-Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing, and Physics & Astronomy — NUST MISIS entered the top half of the world`s best universities, scoring in the 351-400 and 451-500 groups, respectively.
