The fourth annual ceremony to award IELTS certificates to the university`s best students was recently held at NUST MISIS.
Once again NUST MISIS demonstrated the success of its unique English-language program, which has been implemented through the partnership with Cambridge University Press since 2010. Its aim is the training of highly qualified and world-class graduates of engineering specialties who have a strong command of the English language.
According to Timothy E. O`Connor, NUST MISIS Vice-Rector of Academic Affairs, “today, knowledge of at least one foreign language is a must”. In his welcoming speech he also emphasized the enormous importance of communication skills for young specialists.
The ceremony’s distinguished guests — Natalia Bochorishvili, Head of the Cambridge University Press branch in Moscow, and Irina Eddaira & Bill McMains, representatives of the EF Education First in Russia — congratulated students on achieving such outstanding results, and wished them a successful continuation of their academic and professional activities.
Participants and guests took part in a panel discussion dedicated to the role of modern technologies in the educational process. While the opinion of the older generation about the effectiveness of the digital approach was almost unanimous, students said that sometimes it was difficult for them to focus on education when entertainment is so close at hand, predominantly in the form of social networks and messenger apps. However, it was noted that these difficulties have their advantages because nothing trains a student’s will power better than to struggle with the temptation to be distracted from work, and likewise, the skill of focusing on a key activity is a crucial quality of any professional.
