NUST MISIS graduates and students recently won seven medals, including three gold medals, in Grozny, where the Russian Boxing Championship for men was held. The contestants competed for prizes given by Ramzan Kadyrov, Head of the Chechen Republic. Altogether, 290 boxers from 52 Russian regions participated in the championship.
Adlan Abdurashidov, Andrey Zamkovoi and Radjab Radjabov won gold medals, Alikhan Bakaev and Alexander Agafonov won silver medals, and Ovik Ogannisyan and Shamil Mansurov took home bronze medals.
“The sporting group was hard with a lot of good fighters who spent a lot of effort. I am so glad I have become a champion as this was my 5th time [competing], which [for me] is a milestone: winning is so important to me because I came here only to win a gold medal”, noted Andrey Zamkovoi, Russia’s Welter Weight champion.
“I overcame all my competitors before the decisive fight, but during the final fight I felt some worries...In 2016, I experienced a setback but in the new Olympic cycle, believe me — if I go to Tokyo, I won`t come back without a medal”, noted Adlan Abdurashidov, Russia’s Light Welter Weight champion.
