On November 7th and 8th, 2018, NUST MISIS hosted the 5th International Conference on ESP/EAP/EMI in the Context of Internationalizing Higher Education.
This year the conference was held as part of the Times Higher Education World Research Excellence Summit in cooperation with Cambridge University Press. Around 250 educators and administrative representatives of higher education institutions took part in the conference.
The conference’s key topics included:
- • Cognition. Language. Human Communication;
- • The Future of English for Academic and Specific Purposes;
- • Learning & teaching Technologies for Academic Communication.
Andrej Kibrik (RAS Institute of Linguistics, Russia), Olga Capirci (Institute of Cognitive Science and Technologies, Italy), Irene Clark (California State University, USA), Eun Gyong Kim (Korea Advanced Institute of Sciences and Technology, South Korea), Mark Ibbotson (Cambridge University Press, UK), Magnus Gustafson (Chalmers Universty, Sweden), Karen Ottewell (University of Cambridge, UK), and Maria Alm (University of Wisconsin-Stout, USA) were among the key speakers of the plenary sessions.
Newcomer scientists in the field of teaching English demonstrated their achievements and research in the “Young Voices” section.
At the end of the conference, staff of the NUST MISIS Department of Modern Languages and Communication spoke about their upcoming projects, including a school of advanced training for teachers and an English language Olympiad for students.
