From Hong Kong to Moscow: How Students from a Top Asian University Discovered Russia at MISIS

The international summer school Discovering Science, Culture & Education in Russia has concluded, with participants including students and faculty from the University of Hong Kong—one of the world’s leading universities, ranked 17th globally and 2nd in Asia in the QS World University Rankings. The program was designed to introduce students to Russia’s cultural and historical heritage, as well as the university’s infrastructure.

Participants showed particular interest in lectures given by faculty of MISIS’s College of Basic Professional Studies on Russian religion, philosophy, traditions, and symbolism. The cultural program included visits to parks, museums, churches, and theatres. Students explored Moscow’s main landmarks, historical sites, and architectural monuments.

The program for familiarizing students with Russian culture and science was specially developed and organized at NUST MISIS upon the request of the University of Hong Kong for students studying the Russian language.

Dmitry Vasilyev, Director of International Affairs at NUST MISIS: “Creating a system of vacation schools is an important part of NUST MISIS’s strategy to develop as an internationally recognized university. This is the first summer school since the pandemic. I hope that our students’ participation in overseas programs and hosting foreign students here in Moscow will grow steadily and contribute to long-term collaboration.”

Students from NUST MISIS’s language training program took part in organizing the summer school. They facilitated two-way dialogue and practical application of intercultural communication skills, enabling an exchange of experiences and comparison of educational practices between the two countries. The school was implemented under agreements reached during NUST MISIS’s delegation visit to the Education and Careers Expo—2025 international exhibition.
