Education at College of Mining

The College of Mining of NUST MISIS prepares qualified specialists for the largest Russian and foreign companies involved in exploration, extraction, and processing of mineral resources, as well as in the design and creation of new infrastructure facilities, ensuring energy efficiency of industrial facilities and their environmental improvement.

Training of personnel at the College of Mining is conducted at all levels of higher education. Special emphasis is placed on the use of information technologies for creating digital twins of deposits, modeling processes, planning mining operations, designing machine parts and mechanisms. The departments of the College of Mining are equipped with a complex of modern equipment for training specialists in mineral and mining engineering, design and technological support of mechanical engineering, electrical power engineering, and other related areas.

Training of specialists is conducted by professors and teachers with extensive experience in using modern educational technologies. Students undergo internships and training to consolidate the basics of mining and specialised specialties at leading enterprises in the metallurgical and mechanical engineering sectors and in specialised companies.

The College of Mining prepares highly qualified specialists in demand in Russia, the CIS countries, and abroad.

Science at the College of Mining

Scientists from the College of Mining conduct scientific research on a wide range of problems, including in the field of modern mining: from exploration of deposits to processing of mineral resources and assessment of the quality of the resulting products.

The College of Mining is part of the association of Russian universities “Nedra Consortium”, created in 2020. The consortium, which includes 13 universities, was created to improve the quality of higher education, form a single scientific and educational environment, and increase the efficiency of scientific research. To achieve its goals, the consortium attracts cooperation with large companies — leaders of the economy.

Methods, technologies, and hardware developed by scientists from the College of Technologies are used in the extraction of all types of mineral resources: diamonds in Yakutia, gold in Chukotka and the Krasnoyarsk Territory, coal in the mines and open pits of the Kuzbass and other regions, iron ore in the Belgorod and Kursk regions, construction materials in the Moscow region and other subjects of the Russian Federation. The results of scientific research by CM specialists are used at leading mining enterprises in Kazakhstan, the Republic of Belarus, Germany, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, China, Vietnam, countries in Africa and Latin America.

Scientific schools of the NUST MISIS College of Mining continue traditional research areas and develop new ones, implemented in laboratories and centers of global level.

“Our college has been preparing specialists in the field of Mineral and Mining Engineering for 100 years — since 1918, when the Moscow Mining Academy was founded. Modern mining engineers are specialists in Earth sciences and geotechnical engineering. Miners extract mineral resources, shape the appearance of modern megacities — design and build subways, power grids, tunnels, bridges, and skyscrapers, and design complex engineering structures. It is the graduates of the College of Mining who will have to explore the depths of the ocean and implement applied projects for the extraction of mineral resources in space in the near future.”
