Universities as drivers for development of technologies and business

On 28 October, 2015, NUST MISIS will hold a special session called ‘Academic Science and the Industrial Implementation of Innovation’ as part of the BRICS Global University Summit (GUS). Representatives from universities and research centers of the BRICS countries and Western Europe will discuss relevant questions connected with cooperation between universities and corporations, transfer of technologies, the role of higher education institutions in industrial development and implementation of innovations, establishment of the BRICS Network University and online education.

NUST MISIS has been chosen as one of the BRICS GUS’s four venues since it is a leader of technology education in Russia. Having gone up 9 positions in 2015, the university showed the highest dynamic of growth among Russian universities in the TOP-100 of the worldwide QS University Rankings: BRICS.

NUST MISIS is a center of excellence in its main fields (material science, metallurgy, mining and IT) that also shows exceptional results in new areas, such as biomaterials and nano- and IT technologies. All these achievements made it the perfect candidate to organize a plenary session dedicated to cooperation between universities and industries.

The plenary session will be divided into the following three breakout sessions: ‘Universities as drivers of the ‘Knowledge-Based Economy‘’, ‘Smart Industries Based on Modern IT-Solutions’ and ‘Information Technologies for Modeling Socio-Economic and Industrial Systems’.

“NUST MISIS fruitfully cooperates with the other universities of the BRICS countries. We are a member of the Russian-Indian university network. We also productively cooperate with the Chinese universities of the Association of Technical Universities of Russia and China (ATURC). Two weeks ago we held a meeting with the delegation from The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (South Africa) to discuss expansion of our cooperation. As for Brazil, we work closely with the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in the field of information technology. I am convinced that the BRICS Global University Summit will give a powerful impetus to the development of strategic partnership of the five countries’ universities”, noted Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.
