NUST MISIS has made a major breakthrough by entering THE World University Rankings

“It`s a long overdue of course and I congratulate NUST MISIS with this fantastic result and of course it`s a first entering and there is still a long way to go, but is shows that we are on the right track. The international ranking is seen internationally as a very important quality and it will help the visibility of the university. Therefore it will help attracting high-level students, it will help attracting new collaborations, make the access to the sources of finance more viable so in many ways this is going to be an important step for the university”, commented professor Jan van Ruitenbeek, the member of NUST MISIS International Scientific Advisory Council (Leiden University, Netherlands).
The World University Rankings are generated from five Pillars, each represents a key area of higher education excellence: Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry income, and International outlook. These, in turn, are made up of thirteen metrics. The Pillars are blended in the following proportions: Teaching — 30%, Research — 30%, Citations — 30%, International outlook — 7.5%, Industry income — 2.5%.
According to the experts the strength of NUST MISIS is its cooperation with business for applied research and development. Conforming to this index it takes the 133rd position among the other universities in the world.
NUST MISIS continues to grow the amount of works with the profit making organizations and since 2010 it increased 2,5 times. In 2014 the total volume of the joint research and development projects amounted to 310 mln rubles. The university partners with Severstal, JSC “Russian Railways”, Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK), RUSAL, Vyksa Steel Works.
NUST MISIS has reached the 474th position on the Pillar Industry income and the 498th position on the Pillar Research.

According to the British magazine Times Higher Education (THE) it is one of the most influential rankings in the world. The ranking was developed in frames of the Global Institutional Profiles Project by the Times Higher Education and Thomas Reuters in 2010.
The evaluation of the universities development is based on the results of the statistical analyses of their activities, data audit and the annual global survey of the international academic community and employers who express their opinion about the universities.
This year marks the first year that THE is delivering the THE World University Rankings entirely in-house. The rankings are generated from five pillars and these, in turn, are made up of thirteen metrics.
