Contribution of NUST MISIS to the training of personnel for Angola recognised with a state award

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Angola’s independence, Ambassador Augusto da Silva Cunha of the Republic of Angola awarded the Project Lead for Industrial-Educational Partnership with African сountries in NUST MISIS Masamba Kah with the Order of Friendship in recognition of his contribution to the development of cooperation in the scientific and educational sphere.

NUST MISIS has been in a partnership with the Republic of Angola for more than ten years. In 2014 the university organised for Angolan school-students the Olympiad “Time to Study in Russia”, which became one of the first steps towards strengthening educational ties. And in 2019 the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Angola and the university signed a memorandum that defined the strategy for cooperation in creating scientific schools and programmes for training specialists.

“At NUST MISIS about 100 Angolan specialists have been trained, having undergone education in specialised programmes and internships with Russian experts. Our alumni are already working in the leading mining companies of the republic, including in the diamond industry. We intend to further develop the partnership, opening personnel training programmes and joint scientific-educational centres,” said Masamba Kah.

Among the Angolan students studying at NUST MISIS, the most popular four fields of training are: mining, metallurgy, materials science and information technology. This choice reflects the key needs of the Angolan economy, where the extractive industry, manufacturing and digital infrastructure are actively developing. The programmes in these specialisms provide training of specialists capable of solving the actual tasks of the national economy — from the development of deposits to the implementation of digital solutions in industry.

The Order of Friendship emphasises Masamba Kah’s personal contribution in coordinating educational initiatives, attracting talented young people from Angola to Russian universities and developing cooperation within the framework of the consortium of anchor universities of the Rosatom State Corporation.
