NUST MISIS Enters Top-100 of ARWU

For the first time, NUST MISIS has entered the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities by Subject for 2017. The University is listed in the group of “76-100” in the Metallurgical Engineering subject. Only five Russian universities managed to enter the top-100 of Shanghai`s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects for 2017.

The Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects primarily evaluates a university’s achievements in the field of research activities. Its methodology is organized in a way to reduce the impact of any national education system’s specifications on a university’s final evaluation. More than 1,200 universities are involved in this system, but only 500 of them are included in the list of the world`s best universities.

“In 2017, NUST MISIS is demonstrating impressive results in the world`s leading academic rankings by subject: for the first time, the University has entered the QS and ARWU in five subjects. In two of them — ‘Engineering — Mineral & Mining’, and ‘Metallurgy’ — NUST MISIS has entered the world`s top-100 universities”, said Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.

The expansion of the list of subjects is one of the major changes in ARWU`s-2017 methodology. Metallurgical Engineering is one of the new subjects to be ranked for the first time.

In 2016, several large-scale research projects of MegaScience level were launched at NUST MISIS. According to last year’s results, among the university-participants of Project 5-100, NUST MISIS was first in the number of publications in journals in the first quartile of the SNIP. Today, more than 70 scientists with an h-index above 20 work at NUST MISIS, and two of them are included in the Thomas Reuters report on “The World`s Most Influential Scientific Minds 2016”.
