The NUST MISIS College of Economics & Industrial Management to Be named After Vladimir A. Romenets

This decision was made during the NUST MISIS Academic Council meeting held on December 12th, 2018. NUST MISIS will also establish a scholarship program for students and a grant for professors named after Vladimir A. Romenets. The university has also planned a corresponding international conference on “Economics in Industry” for some point in the future.

On March 8, 2018 Vladimir A. Romenets passed away at the age of 91. Romenets was a professor and a Doctor of Technical Sciences who held the positions of Vice-Rector for Science, First Vice-Rector, Head of the Department of Economics, and Head of the College of Economics & Industrial Management over the years. Romenets was a man who devoted his entire life to his life at NUST MISIS.

During his professional career, Vladimir Romenets published over 350 works, including scientific articles, monographs, and manuals. He also trained more than 50 Candidates and Doctors of Sciences. Vladimir Andreevich’s honored achievements include the title of Honored Worker of Science & Technology of the Russian Federation, the President’s Prize in the field of Education, and numerous state awards such as the Order of Merit for the Fatherland and the title of Honorary Metallurgist, among others.

Vladimir Romenets was a world-famous scientist, and he created the unique metallurgical ROMELT technology, whose license was subsequently purchased by the U.S., Japan, and India. Technical and design solutions to construct plants in India, Pakistan, Russia, Vietnam, and Kazakhstan were all developed using the ROMELT technology. Commissioning works have come to an end at the Romelt Plant in Myanmar.

For many NUST MISIS employees, Romenets was not only an outstanding scientist and a talented professor, but most of all, a friend and a mentor to multiple generations of the University’s students.

On December 12th, 2018, by the decision of the NUST MISIS Academic Council, the College of Economics & Industrial Management was renamed the “College of Economics & Industrial Management named after Vladimir A. Romenets”.

In addition, through the support of the NUST MISIS Endowment Fund, a scholarship program for students and a grant for professors named after Vladimir Romenets will also be established.

In memory of Vladimir Romenets, the University will hold an international conference on “Economics in Industry” for the very first time in Spring 2019.
