The decision about the necessity to create such an association was made during Cup MISIS Case-2017, the student championship for the solution of business cases, which NUST MISIS recently hosted. Representatives of NUST MISIS`s key business partners — Nornickel, Severstal, Metalloinvest, Chelpipe, Rosatom, Rusal, etc. — suggested the creation of an Association of NUST MISIS Employers during a panel discussion devoted to issues and problems of preparing students for employment. The Association will be created for closer and more fruitful cooperation as part of the University`s professional navigation activities, internships, and practical trainings, as well as for graduates’ future employment.
Cup MISIS Case is a case championship for students and school students which focuses on solving technical tasks developed by Russia`s leading metallurgical enterprises such as Nornickel, Chelpipe, Metalloinvest, Severstal, etc.
“Cup MISIS Case was developed in 2014 as a university project — team competitions to solve business-cases of the mining and metallurgical sector. In 2015, 45 more universities joined the championship, and in 2016 it reached the federal level by attracting 66 universities. In 2017, the championship became international: around 2,000 high school students and students from 45 schools and universities from Russia and abroad, including the Czech Republic, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and the United Kingdomtook part in the championship”, Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS, noted.
30 teams in three sections — school, junior
The Winners of Cup MISIS Case-2017:
Senior section — Khroom-Khroom team — students from Lomonosov Moscow State University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University and MIPT;
Junior section — ZabGU brain v2.0 team — Transbaikal State University (Chita, Russia);
School section — MI (Mitino Intellectuals) — school № 1358, Moscow.
“Most of the finalists are well prepared to meet the challenges of real business, and the members of the winning teams are 100% prepared for it. I would definitely and gladly hire some of them”, Sergey Malyutin, head of engineering and technical analysis at the Metalloinvest Department for mining production, said.
The championship is important for both participants and representatives of the business community. It gives the participants a chance to try their hands at solving business cases, to go beyond their capabilities, and to get feedback from business representatives. At the same time, employers see the most active and talented students they can invite to work for their companies.
“This championship and the employers` working session are a great opportunity for students to draw a preliminary trajectory for their future career, and for companies to look at talented students. NUST MISIS’s Career Center is a powerful system integrator and guide of all advanced ideas of practice-based learning and career guidance. We support the idea of the creation of an Employers` Association and we will gladly take an active part in everything initiated by the Career Center”, Diana Matveeva, head of Department for the implementation of the educational program “The future of white metallurgy”, added.
Chelpipe and Rusal, leading metallurgical companies, invited the best participants to do internships in their companies. The winners of the school section will get an additional 10 points on their Unified State Exam results for admission to NUST MISIS.
Cup MISIS Case championship is held by the NUST MISIS Career Center through the support of Russia’s Ministry of Education and Science and partner companies. The case championship is organized as part of the implementation of the program for the development of NUST MISIS student association activities.
