The South African Department of Higher Education and Training has selected NUST MISIS as a strategic partner for African educational institutions to help strengthen their integration with industry.
At the invitation of the Department, representatives of NUST MISIS visited the University of Mpumalanga, the University of Zululand, and North-West University to identify key areas of cooperation. These include the development of joint academic programs and the implementation of research projects commissioned by South African industry partners.
Masamba Kah, Head of the Industrial and Educational Partnership Project between NUST MISIS and African countries, presented the university’s key academic programs and research areas during a strategic session with profile government bodies of the Republic of South Africa.
Particular interest was shown in areas such as the development of new technologies for mining and mineral processing; advanced metallurgical processes and materials that increase the value of the country’s mineral resources; research into innovative materials; digitalization of industrial processes; and the development of efficient economic models.
The parties also discussed opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration in engineering, environmental research, and agricultural technologies. In addition, they highlighted strong potential for cooperation in nuclear energy, including joint research and capacity building.
“The industry-oriented approach of MISIS education fully aligns with the needs of South African universities and creates significant potential for developing joint programs and research. Our partners have expressed their readiness to design and implement practice-oriented projects through targeted enrollment,” said Masamba Kah, commenting on the outcomes of the meeting.
The agreements reached open new prospects for strengthening Russian—African cooperation in science and education ahead of the third Russia-Africa Summit, scheduled for October 2026.
