NUST MISIS has become a partner of one of the world`s leading educational online-platforms edX. The platform was created by MIT and Harvard University.
One of the significant events of the еdX Global Forum 2015 was presentation of its new partners. Four leading Russian universities NUST MISIS, NRNU MEPhI, ITMO University and Ural Federal University have joined the consortium of universities which can place their courses on edX.
„We are pleased to welcome the leading Russian universities and top universities in England as edx.org new partners. When we started edX 3, 5 years ago, we couldn’t even imagine that one day Russia will launch its National Online Education Platform created on edX basis. Openedu.ru was launched six month ago and it`s worth mentioning that NUST MISIS has made a huge contribution to its creation”, said Anant Agarwal, CEO of edX.
Most of the Russian universities courses will start to operate in 2016, as they should receive quality certification. Especially for edX, NUST MISIS develops courses on materials science which is one of its key areas. Each of the courses will be selected based on contest and they will represent the core disciplines of NUST MISIS master`s degree programs. The students of the global platform will have an opportunity not only take a course, but also sit for an examination and receive a certificate which will be recognized while studying master`s program at NUST MISIS.
„To develop online courses we apply modern approach which operates on the world`s best venues. We change the traditional lectures format with the help of infographics and animations developed by web designers and programmers. As a result, students get a full course consisting of short lessons which form a module”, said Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.
Information about edX
EdX is one of the world leading educational online platforms created by MIT and Harvard University. It offers more than 300 courses, which include video lectures, built-in online tests with feedback, web-labs and etc. The EdX is an online educational platform with a source code. It lets the students to update the work and the universities and organizations to use them for their own needs.
The platform partners with the world leading universities (The University of California, Berkeley, Boston University, University of Chicago, Sorbonne, Technische Universitaet Muenchen, ETH Zurich, Hong Kong University of Science and technology, Peking University, University of Tokyo).
