NUST MISIS and the Russian Quantum Center (RQC) have announced the launch of a joint science education project — the NUST MISIS Quantum Center. The project’s blueprint calls for scientists from both NUST MISIS and the RQC to implement joint programs.
NUST MISIS and the RQC are among the leading scientific and research centers in Russia which work on developments in the field of quantum technologies.
Back in 2013, for the very first time in Russia, a science team consisting of NUST MISIS and RQC scientists led by Professor Alexey Ustinov—head of the NUST MISIS Laboratory for Superconducting Metamaterials—carried out measurements of quantum bits, or qubits. In May 2015, the same team together with colleagues from MIPT and the Institute of Solid State Physics RAS created and tested the first superconducting qubit in Russia.
The goal of the NUST MISIS Quantum Center is to become a leader in the field of quantum research and quantum technologies in scientific, research, and educational spheres around the world. With that goal, the center will attract world-leading scientists and link the best laboratories in Russia. The center will also engage the development and implementation of educational programs for training young specialists, who will become the core of the Russian quantum research community in the near future.
“The creation of the NUST MISIS Quantum Center will allow us to combine the research capabilities of two leading scientific and research centers in Russia, both of which are engaged in developments in the field of quantum technologies. We actively collaborate with Russia`s other leading universities and scientific & research institutions specializing in quantum physics research”, said Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.
In the near future all of the RQC`s laboratories will be relocated to NUST MISIS. About 2,000 m2 will be allocated to them. The renovation is already taking place, and the RQC`s science teams will move to NUST MISIS when the premises are completed.
For 2016 the financing is being carried out through the means of Project
“Our scientists will be able not only to conduct scientific work and research, but also to teach and select their future employees. In turn, with our scientists on board, NUST MISIS significantly enhances its capabilities in the field of fundamental science”, commented Ruslan Yunusov, Chief Executive Officer of the RQC.
