NUST MISIS Enters Top-5 among Russian Universities in QS Graduate Employability Rankings

NUST MISIS has entered the top-5 among Russia universities in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings, which is designed to improve the quality of analyses about the links between university practices and graduate employability. NUST MISIS is featured in the 201+ band.

The QS Graduate Employability Rankings is a newer publication, launching in 2015 with its pilot ranking. According to the ranking representatives, the methodology has been enhanced and an additional 100 universities were ranked this year. Seven Russian universities are present in the ranking.

In the QS Graduate Employability Rankings composition not only are statistics of higher education institutions taken into account, but also the opinion of employers. The aim of the ranking is to show the links between university practices and graduate employability. Their performance in this direction is evaluated according to the following five criteria:

— employer reputation;
— partnership with employers;
— alumni outcomes;
— employers` presence on campus;
— graduate employment rate.

Among Russian universities in the ranking, NUST MISIS ranked first place in the “Organization of interaction between employers and students” indicator. The university earned the maximum, 100 out of 100 possible points. Only seven universities in the world received the same measure, among them the California Institute of Technology and Arizona State University.

“The educational process in our university is built on the CDIO principles. We implement the project’s approach at all levels of education: from undergraduate and specialist`s degrees to graduate and postgraduate degrees. Every year, together with our business partners, we develop practice and internship plans. The main strategic partners of our university are the leading industrial companies, such as OMK, Metalloinvest, Karakan Invest, Nornickel, Alrosa, Evraz, and EuroChem”, said Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.

NUST MISIS cooperates with over 1200 employers in Russia and abroad; annually the university organizes about 100 career events for almost 5000 students. According to the university`s data, students interning in core companies during their studies end up getting employed in 80-90% cases.

NUST MISIS`s business partners select their future employees through the events organized by the university: the Professional Navigation forum devoted to preparation for employment; Breakpoint, an all-Russian forum for students and alumni of technical universities, CUP MISIS CASE, mining and metallurgical championship case, and many others. Core business companies establish special programs to support NUST MISIS’s young specialists and alumni: they compensate the costs of moving to a new job location, help their families with employment, and even compensate the cost of rental housing. Salaries of specialists in the field of metallurgy at the end of an education from NUST MISIS amount to 40-50,000 Rubles per month, and IT-specialists can expect salaries near 80,000 Rubles a month.
