Muon radiography for the analysis of flooded mines

On April 25-26, 2018, the All-Russian Conference “Experience and Practical Steps to Restore a Mining Plant after an Accident”, organized by ALROSA, was held. The leading scientists in the field of mining, experts and mining engineers attended the conference to discuss ways to resume production at the Mir mine.

NUST MISIS presented the developed technical solution, based on the method of muon radiography, to study the condition of the flooded deposit of the Mir mine. Advantages of the proposed solution: large detection depth (up to 2 km.), no need to drill additional wells and short terms of the obtained data analysis.

The presented method was adopted by ALROSA for further discussion of the possibilities of its application.
