Representatives of the Municipal Assembly of Korle Klottey in Accra, the capital of the Republic of Ghana, have signed an agreement with MISIS University for cooperation in the field of communications. The Municipal Assembly is interested in developing customer-oriented communication skills among its employees. The delegation was led by Samuel James Nii Adjei Tawiah, the municipal chief executive of Korle Klottey. He noted that the municipal administration provides grants for training specialists in waste management at Russian universities and is preparing a similar program in public relations. The parties discussed the creation of media communication courses for Ghanaian citizens at NUST MISIS.
“Our impression of the meeting exceeded all expectations. We want to collaborate with people who have successfully traveled the path that we are planning to take in our country. I am confident that studying at MISIS University will help develop a strategy to improve communication quality with the population. We want to enhance the qualifications of municipal staff and establish an exchange of experiences. It is important for them to come to Moscow and see the changes happening here, be inspired by them! We have already benefited from the cooperation with MISIS University. We are being assisted by the head of public affairs and international relations at the Municipal Assembly in Accra, Hans Bernard Nii Ofori Quaye, who studied here, as well as the project manager of the industrial-educational partnership at NUST MISIS, Masamba Kah, who actively contributes to the development of relations with Russia. I believe there is much to learn from here,” said Samuel James Nii Adjei Tawiah in his welcome speech.
Among the delegation was Hans Bernard Nii Ofori Quaye, a graduate of the international master’s program in Communications and International Public Relations at NUST MISIS. Hans enrolled in the university in 2016, the first year of the program’s existence, already being a professional radio journalist. Currently, Hans heads the public affairs and international relations department of the Municipal Assembly in Accra, the capital of Ghana. For two consecutive years, he has participated in the Russia-Africa Summit, and his colleagues were impressed by the efficiency of information and customer services in Russia at the level of municipal services.
“Studying at NUST MISIS was a turning point in his professional life, as Hans saw the development opportunities available to organizations in international cooperation and how to use communication tools to work with foreign audiences. I am glad that graduates of our master’s program not only achieve professional success but also contribute to the development of international cooperation with Russian organizations. At the meeting, we discussed specific steps with members of the Accra municipality delegation for training municipal service employees in customer communication,” said Lilia Bondareva, PhD, the head of the Head of the Department of Modern Languages and Communication at NUST MISIS.
Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at NUST MISIS Andrey Voronin emphasized at the end of the meeting the importance not only of implementing qualification programs for representatives of the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly but also of further deepening ties for the development of academic mobility and educational programs.
“Today, young people from all regions of Russia and 85 countries study at MISIS University. Every fifth student at the University is a foreign citizen. We pay great attention to creating a comfortable environment for educational, scientific, creative activities, help foreign students adapt to university life, conduct Cultural Days, ethnic quizzes, international youth conferences, etc. In recent years, we have seen an increase in interest in Russian universities among young people from near and distant countries. NUST MISIS actively cooperates with universities worldwide. In the future, we plan to sign agreements for cooperation and expand partnerships with universities in African countries, China, India, and other states,” noted Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.
