MISIS University — Russia’s Leader in Materials Science

NUST MISIS has improved its standings in the QS-2025 rankings, making it into five subject-specific and two broad-field lists. The university has retained its position as Russia’s No. 1 institution in materials science and ranked among the top three in mining engineering. Overall, experts evaluated and ranked more than 1,700 universities worldwide.

MISIS is ranked among the top 20 universities in Russia by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), one of the most authoritative and globally recognized academic ranking agencies.

In 2025, NUST MISIS expanded its presence in five QS subject rankings:

  • Materials Science — 1st in Russia, 151–200 globally
  • Mining Engineering — 3rd in Russia, 48th globally
  • Mechanical Engineering — 12th in Russia, 301–350 globally
  • Chemistry — 12th—14th in Russia, 551–600 globally
  • Physics — 15th in Russia, 401–450 globally

In the broader industry rankings, NUST MISIS achieved the following positions:

  • Natural Sciences — 13th—15th in Russia, 401–450 globally
  • Engineering & Technology — 14th—16th in Russia, 451–500 globally

The QS rankings are based on five key indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per paper, H-index, and internationalization level, measured through international research collaborations.
