28 October, 2015, in frames of the BRICS Global University Summit NUST MISIS hosted the special plenary session Academic Studies and Modern Technologies. The BRICS and the European countries universities and research centers representatives have discussed the universities and organizations cooperation, technology transfer, the universities role in the industry development, implementation of innovations, BRICS Network University development and online education issues.
“The BRICS countries universities mission is to become a driver of knowledge distribution, science and education integrator, communication guide between the academic environment, business communities and government institutions”, said Alevtina Chernikova, Rector of NUST MISIS.
NUST MISIS and the University of Science and Technology Beijing have signed the Memorandum of understanding. The parties have agreed launch international master`s degree programs, educate the USTB graduate students at NUST MISIS and to hold summer schools. These actions would expand the joint activities in the field of science and education.
The signing of the Memorandum is a milestone for both universities. The USTB was established in 1952 with the direct participation of the Moscow Institute of Steel employees. The USTB originated as the Beijing Institute of Steel. NUST MISIS ranks the first position in the fields of metallurgy and materials science in the Russian National Rankings, at the same time the USTB ranks the first position in the Chinese National Rankings.
Russia considers China as one of the significant strategic partners. NUST MISIS and 15 universities in China have signed the agreements. NUST MISIS collaborates with the Tsinghua University and the University of Science and Technology Beijing in frames of the large-scale project It`s time to study in Russia. The Center for Chinese language established by NUST MISIS and the Institute of Asian and African Studies operates at NUST MISIS. Due to the high level of language teaching, students have a chance to serve an internship in the universities in China.
